I might be a bit old fashioned here as I believe the best time to get rid of the dummy is when the PARENT is ready! The parent needs to be the one that wont cave in, the one that stays strong (and loving and supportive). It doesn't matter on the age of the child as either way they will be looking for you, the parent to give them the reassurance and the comfort they need as they learn to live without a dummy.
